What is DNS?
DNS stands for Domain Name System. DNS is used to manage or maintain the domain name and their associated records. In simple words, we can say that DNS i.e, Domain Name System is used to manage the server records to verify their domain name ownership. DNS act as a phonebook of the internet. DNS connects domain name with IP address i.e, Internet Protocol Address. DNS translates a domain name to IP address and loads to the browser to access the information online.
How the DNS works?
The DNS works as the translation of a domain name into a computer-friendly IP address. That means when someone visite a website by accessing the domain name, like www.bloglearner.tk, the DNS translates the domain name into IP address.
To understand the DNS resolution very well you have to get the very well knowledge about the different hardware component that how a DNS query pass between the hardware.

Basically, there are four DNS servers works to load a webpage which is listed below:
- DNS Recursor
- Root Nameserver
- TLD Nameserver
- Authoritative Nameserver
- To understand DNS Recursor, we take an example of a librarian who is asked for a book to find in the library. Like this DNS Recursor is designed to receive a query from the client-side through a web browser and then serve the required result behind you.
- The Root Nameserver is the first step that is used to translate the domain name into an IP address. It works like an index in a library for the arrangement of the books like the book which we want to form library through index we get it easily. Like this when we enter a domain name to the web browser it maps to the corresponding IP address which is connected to that domain name.
- In TLD Nameserver, TLD stands for Top Level Domain. It is like a specific rack of books in a library that means searching for a specific IP address and it's hosts the last position of the hostname for example in www.bloglearner.tk the TLD server is "tk".
- The authoritative nameserver is a server that holds the DNS records. This is a final nameserver in the DNS. Authoritative nameserver holds the actual DNS records for a particular domain. DNS records like A records, TXT records, CNAME records, MX records, etc.
